Cli-Fi Series at Siskel Film Center Every Tuesday

January 30 - May 7

Science fiction films often imagine futures that comment on the problems of the present. In recent years, “Cli-Fi,” or fiction about climate change, has become an increasingly popular genre, and some historical films have been newly understood within this framework. This series will screen a wide range of historical and contemporary Cli-Fi films, including science fiction, narrative, and experimental films, as well as blockbusters, in order to explore how they encourage us to see, understand, and respond to the escalating crisis of climate change.

Presented in collaboration with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Art History, Theory and Criticism, and Film, Video, New Media, and Animation departments. Cli-Fi Lecture Series runs January 30 through May 7, Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. All screenings followed by a lecture from SAIC Professors Shawn Michelle Smith and Oliver Sann.
