Super Bowl Hits and Misses from Optimus Editor Ariana DeSimone
Which Super Bowl spots did you love? Which did you not love? Let’s hear what the pros had to say! We were thrilled to have Optimus Editor Ariana DeSimone stop by Screen after the game to present her picks…
SCREEN: What was your favorite spot of the Super Bowl?
ARIANA: I think my favorite of the night was the Manscaped “Hair Ballad” spot. Singing clumps of hair with faces…so good. It was gross, hilarious and had weirdly clever lyrics that had me giggling. This one came on earlier in the night, and I kept waiting for another ad to grab my attention the same way, but nothing really came close. I could just not stop thinking about the singing hairballs with eyes! Very funny and well executed.
SCREEN: What was your least favorite spot of the night or a spot you felt could have been more successful?
ARIANA: The only spot that really stood out to me as a bit of a flop was the Poppi Charli XCX ad. I thought the style of it was fun and the idea had potential, but overall it left me kind of confused at the end of what the message was. There was a lot of fun visual vibes, but I was not catching the vibe…if you know what I mean!
SCREEN: What would you like to see more or less of in terms of advertising in next year’s Super Bowl?
ARIANA: Well, this year there was definitely a lot of AI… felt like too much to me, and very repetitive of the same types of AI tools. Hopefully less next year… but probably more.
SCREEN: Any final words here, Ariana?
ARIANA: A couple honorable mentions in my book are the Bosch Guy Fieri ad and the Pringles Sabrina Carpenter ad. I thought both were funny and memorable. I also thought they did a great job using their celebrity talent in a way that made sense for the brands, instead of it feeling forced. Last honorable mention, is the Redfin and Rocket Mortgage ad. More on the emotional side compared to my other picks, but I thought this one was very sweet and relatable. I think it was executed well and I liked the Lady Gaga rendition of the neighborhood song.
Let’s take a look at the Guy Fieri spot…
