‘Shameless’ alum Jeremy Allen White headlining FX pilot ‘The Bear,’ filming in Chicago in July

Shameless fans might be missing the dearly departed Emmy-winning series but there is good news ahead. Shameless alum Jeremy Allen White will be returning to Chicago and to the small screen to headline the FX comedy pilot The Bear. Sources tell SCREEN the pilot is expected to shoot in the city from July 7th through the 14th.

In The Bear, White will play a young chef who returns to Chicago to run the family restaurant in the half-hour project. The writer and director of the pilot is Christopher Storer, best known as executive producer and director of the Hulu series Ramy.

Jeremy Allen White is known for playing “Lip Gallagher” throughout the run of the Showtime series Shameless. The Emmy-winning series starring William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum filmed exterior scenes in Chicago throughout its eleven seasons, before ending its run in April. White’s other TV credits include the first season of Homecoming at Amazon, as well as features like The Rental, Afterschool, and Viena and the Fantomes.

The cast also features Saturday Night Live alum Abby Elliott, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (NOS4A2), Ayo Edebiri (Dickinson), Lionel Boyce (Loiter Squad), and Matty Matheson (Just A Dash).

In addition to directing, Storer will executive produce the pilot alongside Hiro Murai, who serves as an executive producer and director FX’s Emmy-winning series Atlanta, Murai’s production company co-founder and Nate Matteson, and Joanna Calo (Bojack Horseman).
