POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Commissioner, Film Indy CREATED: March 22, 2016 FILM INDY OBJECTIVE To position Indianapolis as a production-friendly city for advertising photo shoots, TV commercials, corporate training videos, reality TV shows, straight to online movies, sports documentaries, music videos, and major movies—in support of tourism spending, jobs, hotel stays, and marketing exposure for the city. POSITION PURPOSE To oversee Indianapolis’ two-year film initiative and position Indy as a production-friendly city for the motion picture industry, while bolstering the production and consumption of film in the city in support of creating a more robust film economy. The Film Indy Commissioner will serve as a two-year contractor, working with Visit Indy, the Indy Chamber, the Central Indiana Community Foundation, and the Film Indy Advisory Board. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Visit Indy’s marketing team will provide graphic and web design, collateral development, promotional videos, and all necessary marketing support.  Reactive Film Inquiries: respond promptly to all inquiries related to film production  Proactive Film Production: attend annual conferences in order to pitch Indy as a productionfriendly city and secure inbound film production. Also, travel to meet possible clients in person  Database Management: manage a motion picture crew and company database, local film production company database, locations database (sites available for filming) and industry calendar  Community Relations: liaise with various state agencies and municipalities to establish and/or streamline permitting processes, including the City of Indianapolis.  Strategic Marketing: develop Film Indy’s sales pitch and manage the initiative’s marketing strategy  Website Management: manage as the central portal for any Indianapolis film initiatives  Public Relations: create media exposure for any Film Indy success stories  Spokesperson: serve as Film Indy’s spokesperson and point person for on-site production needs  Advisory Board Liaison: establish the membership of the initiative’s advisory board and lead quarterly meetings  Partnership Relations: work in tandem with other instate film initiatives, including the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s Film Indiana office to maximize marketing efforts and industry development to discuss industry progress and associated strategies  Budget Management: plan, track, and reconcile the initiative’s annual budget of $150,000  Key Success Objectives: monitor, track, and report on key success objectives, including: permits issued, website traffic, productions hosted, and estimated economic impact from productions in Indy resulting from the initiative EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience  At least three years of experience in business development, marketing and/or a film-related industry is required  Additional knowledge of or experience in film production or a film-related business is a plus KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
