BREAKING: ‘Power Book IV: Force’ Has Been Renewed for Season 3

Will Tommy Egan be back? The answer is a resounding YES. Fans of the Chicago-made Starz series Power Book IV: Force had been anxiously awaiting an announcement on the show’s renewal for a third season. The verdict is in, and it is great news for fans of the show and for the Chicago TV production community. Sources have shared with SCREEN that Starz has renewed Power Book IV: Force for Season Three.

Sources tell SCREEN the third season of Power Book IV: Force is expected to begin filming on or near February 20th. Production offices will open January 8th. Season Three will film through mid-July in Chicago.

The Positive Signs Leading Up to the Season Renewal

Earlier this month, SCREEN was hearing rumblings that the Season Three renewal was imminent, and those whispers wound up being on target. Here were some of the other promising signs that the show’s renewal was on the way…

First and foremost, the writers’ room for Season Three was re-opened immediately following resolution of the strike. The writers’ room had been open prior to the strike, and the fact that Force writers reconvened right after the WGA went back to work was a clear positive, to say the least.

Second, it appeared several of the stars of Power Book IV: Force had their contracts renewed for Season Three. This move had been expected, as the network needed to hang onto its core cast as it deliberated over the decision to renew or not to renew. But nevertheless, it was a positive.

Finally, Starz is still renting stages at Cinespace. That square footage is expensive, and Starz continued to lease that space through the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It’s a significant expense that led us to believe Starz planned on putting that studio space to use in the near future. And now, we know those stages will be hopping starting in February.
