Pinnacle Advertising Creative Director Mike Priebe Shares His Super Bowl Faves
In the ad world, Super Bowl Sunday is about anything but football. Or even Taylor Swift or Kendrick Lamar. It’s about the commercials! We are honored to have Pinnacle Advertising Creative Director Mike Priebe stop by Screen to share his take on the advertising artistry on display during the big game…
SCREEN: What was your favorite spot of the night?
MIKE: Stella Artois. “Other David”. Matt Damon was a perfect use of a cameo celebrity and delivered his one-liners perfectly. You could tell he was having fun. A clever, unpretentious spot – with a tease that the story may continue. Perfect casting on the parents also. (“There’s two Davids. One has to be Other David”) A Second Place shout out to the Coors Light sloths. Loved the sloths, so well produced.
SCREEN: What was your least favorite spot of the night or a spot you felt could have been more successful?
MIKE: CoffeeMate. “Let’s Go Tongues” Here’s the positive: I was unaware that there was a whipped cream version of CoffeeMate before I saw this spot so mission accomplished. However: The spot had everyone at our party squirming. It got your attention for sure, but unfortunately it felt a bit more dark and ominous than playful. Perhaps the Special Effects Team made that tongue just a little too realistic?
SCREEN: What would you like to see more or less of in terms of advertising in next year’s Super Bowl?
MIKE: Keep the funny entertaining spots coming please!
SCREEN: Any final words here, Mike?
MIKE: How many times a day does someone in a conference room say, “I have an idea! Let’s get one of the Manning brothers! Or both!”
