New Road-Trip Comedy Podcast Launches Just in Time for July 4th Travel Season

As millions of Americans prepare to hit the road for the Fourth of July holiday, the creators of the acclaimed independent film Everything Fun You Could Possibly Do in Aledo, Illinois are offering travelers a new form of entertainment: a fictional comedy podcast designed for the open road.

Launching June 25, Brenda & Gabby’s Absolutely Awesome Adventures in Aledo Illinois is an original scripted audio series that captures the humor, heart, and unexpected adventures of small-town America. The podcast invites listeners to settle in for a uniquely Midwestern journey filled with colorful characters, quirky situations, and the kind of storytelling that makes long drives pass a little faster.

Created by the team behind Everything Fun You Could Possibly Do in Aledo, Illinois, the podcast expands on the filmmakers’ passion for celebrating overlooked places, memorable personalities, and the communities that make America unique.

“Road trips have always been about stories,” said film writer, producer and podcast co-writer Christina Shaver “Whether you’re driving across the country or heading a few hours to visit family for the holiday, we wanted to create something entertaining that people could experience together from the front seat.”

The new series arrives on the heels of growing recognition for Everything Fun You Could Possibly Do in Aledo, Illinois, the independently produced feature film that introduced audiences to the charm and character of the small Illinois community. The film earned media attention for its authentic portrayal of friendship, nostalgia, and rural American life, helping put Aledo on the map for viewers far beyond the Midwest.

The podcast format allows the creators to continue exploring the themes that resonated with audiences while embracing a new storytelling medium ideally suited for travelers, commuters, and podcast fans.

“There’s something special about listening to a story while you’re on the road,” said co-writer, Brad Ruggles. “We hope listeners laugh, connect with the characters, and maybe even be inspired to discover a few hidden gems of their own along the way.”

The premiere episode of Brenda & Gabby’s Absolutely Awesome Adventures in Aledo Illinois will be available beginning June 25 on YouTube and other platforms, with additional episodes rolling out throughout the summer travel season.

Each episode centers on a new local adventure, personal challenge, or community event that pulls Brenda, Gabby, the town sheriff, Max, a Chicago-transplant real estate agent, Leon, a jailhouse regular who treats lockup like a second home, and the people around them into a heightened comedy world inspired by small-town life.

The comedy comes from everyday ambition, local loyalties, reinvention, friendship, rivalry, and the gap between what the characters set out to do and what their fictional Aledo world has in store.

Featured cast are Suzy Boggus, Narrator, Jennifer Estlin as Brenda, Sara Sevigny as Gabby and Eddie Heffernan as the Sheriff and Max Rasmussen as Max, the Real Estate Agent.

At its core, the series celebrates people who continue dreaming big.
