Michael Maes Answers Five Questions with SCREEN

Cobra Kai, Avengers Assemble, and the best dinner of your life? It’s all here as award-winning commercial photographer Michael Maes plays Five Questions with SCREEN. Michael is also a director on the talented Quriosity Productions roster, and he is ready to entertain with this week’s round of Q’s… Let’s get to it!

SCREEN: You’re an award-winning photographer, so we gotta ask… what’s your favorite photo you’ve ever taken?

MICHAEL: My favorite photo is usually always the last one I’ve taken, because I’m always trying to do something new. This one isn’t quite my last one, but it was probably the most successful in a recent still life series I experimented with. I was attempting to blend the modern graphic monochromatic trend with historical painterly treatments and just a touch of surrealism. I’ve gotten a lot of positive responses to this one, which is always a gauge to the success of a piece…

SCREEN: What’s that TV show you’re a little embarrassed to admit you love to watch?

MICHAEL: This is truly embarrassing, but it’s Cobra Kai. My excuse is my son is into it and I like having the down time with him at night before bed. It’s a perfect escape at the end of the day – especially when you can reenact the fight scenes with your son afterwards.

[Editor’s Note: not embarrassing at all, Michael, we all love us some Cobra Kai! Here’s a look at the latest season trailer…]

SCREEN: If you could fix one thing, what would you fix?

MICHAEL: I’d fix people’s perspective on the environment. We need to come together to stop climate change. We only have one planet and the time to act is now. I’m a member and donor to a number of conservation groups that I hope carry a bigger impact than I can alone.

SCREEN: You’ve been cast in the new Avengers blockbuster. What role are you playing?

MICHAEL: Hawkeye, of course.

SCREEN: One meal, one restaurant, and we’re buying. What will it be?

MICHAEL: Cola de Langosta at Feliz Langosta in Matapalo, Costa Rica. Butter, garlic, fresh lobster, french fries and a cold Imperial. Completely indulgent in a casual environment. We stop there every time on our way to our Costa Rican home.

BONUS QUESTIONS!

SCREEN: Your go-to karaoke song?

MICHAEL: It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N Roll). Need I say more?

SCREEN: Worst job ever?

MICHAEL: Carpet store. Restocking carpet samples. Again, need I say more?
