Exclusive: ‘Chicago Fire’ Guest Star Lorenzo T Hughes

Actor Lorenzo T Hughes started as a model in Omaha and learned how to act on stage in Kansas City before earning his current guest star role as DDC Markinson on Chicago Fire. Along the way, he endured a lot of the challenges that come with pursuing an artistic career and even lived in his car for a short period of time. But after trudging down that long and winding road, he’s still one of the most pleasant guys you’d ever want to meet.

“I loved the work so much that I’m willing to gamble on myself,” he says. “So, you know, I kept rolling the dice.”

His character, DDC Markinson, appeared briefly last April during Chicago Fire Season 13. Arriving at the scene of a West Side blaze, he asked Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) how the efforts to douse it were coming along. DDC Markinson will make another appearance in a “high-stakes” episode on October 22. But to really get a feel for the show, Screen recommends watching all of Season 14 , which premieres on October 1.

Here, Screenmag talks with Hughes about acting on Chicago Fire and trekking the path to get there.
