Chicago already has a powerhouse new series to look forward to in 2023. Hulu on Thursday officially announced that Keanu Reeves will executive produce and star in Devil in the White City. Keanu’s fellow executive producers will include Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorcese. The eight-episode series is targeted for a 2024 launch, with production not expected to commence until next year. The series is expected to film in the Chicagoland area.
Based on the best-selling book by Erik Larson, Devil in the White City “tells the story of Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the man behind the notorious ‘Murder Castle’ built in the Fair’s shadow,” according to the official logline.
Reeves’ involvement in the series was first reported in January by multiple sources, but this is the first time it has been confirmed by Hulu. Here is everything we know so far…

The series boasts some high-profile executive producers alongside Reeves, most notably Oscar winners Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. Other executive producers include writer and showrunner Sam Shaw, Rick Yorn and Jennifer Davisson (for Appian Way), Stacey Sher, Mark Lafferty, and series director Todd Field.
The project has been in various stages of development since DiCaprio bought the film rights to the book in 2010 and previously set it up as a feature at Paramount with Scorsese to direct, according to Deadline. In 2019, Hulu announced that it was developing the project as a big-budget series with DiCaprio and Scorsese executive producing.
