‘Justified: City Primeval’ Wraps in Chicago Thurs, Heads to Miami for Brief Shoot
Filming for the highly anticipated FX series Justified: City Primeval is going smoothly, and is set to wrap in Chicago this Thursday, August 18th. Sources tell SCREEN the production will then head to Miami for a few days of shooting. Following the Florida stint, production will leap back to Chicago to wrap out, and then the series marches ahead into post-production.
The series is expected to release in early 2023, and that specific date is likely to be announced in the near future.
What to Expect from Justified: City Primeval
The show returns to Givens’ story eight years after he’s left Kentucky and now is based in Miami, balancing life as a marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl. A chance encounter on a Florida highway sends him to Detroit and he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent sociopath who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and wants to do so again.
“Justified was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past decade and an adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s work that was so colorfully brought to life by Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, Graham Yost and the entire team of producers, writers, directors and cast,” said Eric Schrier, President of FX Entertainment. “To have this group come together again with Tim as Raylan in a new and different Elmore Leonard story is thrilling.”
“When Justified concluded, the love and affection for this exceptional series only grew and left audiences craving more Raylan Givens,” added President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, Jeff Frost and Co-President, Jason Clodfelter. “The iconic Elmore Leonard was one of the premier authors of our time, and no one has quite captured his tone and authenticity as well as this Justified team.”

Filming Going Smoothly Following July Incident
Sources tell SCREEN that filming of Justified: City Primeval has been smooth and without interruption following a highly publicized incident last month. Sony ramped up protection on the Chicago set after cars whose occupants were engaged in a gunfight smashed through the show’s barricades on July 21st. No one was injured, though multiple shell casings were found on the set. The cast and crew hit the ground and took cover when the incident occurred near the city’s Douglass Park. Series lead and executive producer Timothy Olyphant, who is reprising his role as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, was present.
