Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos Set to Return to ‘Chicago PD’ for One Chicago’s Mega Crossover Episode

They’re back! Detectives Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton will return to ‘Chicago PD’ for #OneChicago’s three-part crossover episode airing March 4th.

The duo affectionately dubbed “Upstead” by ChiHards are seen in the episode’s promo video…

Soffer, who played Detective Jay Halstead on ‘PD’ for ten seasons from the show’s first episode through his exit in October of 2022, left to explore other opportunities. His character, Halstead, left the intelligence unit to rejoin the army and hunt drug cartels in Bolivia. Meanwhile, Spiridakos exited the following season and has since starred on USA’s ‘Anna Pigeon’. Detective Upton turned in her police badge to enlist in federal law enforcement after a season full of chaos that included a divorce from Halstead and a near death experience. Since both characters’ exits, fans have wanted them to reunite -especially since Halstead seemed to string his Upton along for the ride. And while they are returning, the teaser doesn’t exactly show signs of the romantic reunion fans have spent years wanting.

Per Variety, Upton “returns to her former stomping grounds, but this time on the federal level as a Special Agent of the FBI. She joins her former P.D. allies after a drug enforcement task force case out of her Detroit field office leaders her back to Chicago.” Meanwhile Halstead “has been deep undercover, leading him on a path to the same case that Upton is investigating.”

The March 4th crossover episodes will not air in the shows’ usual order. ‘Chicago Fire’ will kick things off followed by ‘Chicago Med’ and then ‘Chicago PD’ will stay in its usual slot and wrap up the night.
