Jake Gyllenhaal Series ‘Presumed Innocent’ to Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival

Jake Gyllenhaal’s first foray into TV included a brief stint of filming in Chicago, and now the Warner Brothers / Apple TV+ mini series is set to make its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The series is written and produced by David E Kelley, best known for his success with Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, and The Practice, to name just a few.

The series filmed in Los Angeles over the first half of 2023, and landed in Chicago for exterior scenes at the end of November.

Inspired by Chicago writer Scott Turow’s courtroom thriller, Presumed Innocent is the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The book was published in 1987 and was turned into a 1990 feature starring Harrison Ford in the role Gyllenhaal is helming.

Oscar Nom Joins Cast

Gyllenhaal will be joined by actor Ruth Negga. Negga starred in Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut Passing and in Macbeth on Broadway. She earned a Tony nomination for Macbeth and an Oscar nomination for Loving. 

Gyllenhall and Negga’s supporting cast includes Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle and Renate Reinsve.

Kelley serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner of the series, which hails from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive produce for Bad Robot. Kelley executive produces through David E. Kelley Productions alongside Matthew Tinker. Gyllenhaal, Dustin Thomason and Sharr White also serve as executive producers. Turow and Miki Johnson are co-executive producers. Series directors include Anne Sewitsky and Greg Yaitanes.
