‘I Didn’t Mean to Go Mental’ Celebrates L.A. Premiere at Dances with Films

The half-hour Chicago-made TV pilot “I Didn’t Mean To Go Mental” made its L.A. premiere at the iconic TCL Chinese Theater as part of the Dances With Films festival on Saturday, July 1st. The screening of the dark comedy was followed by an afterparty at The Hollywood Roosevelt.

Created, written by and starring Carly Glenn, the dark comedy follows the unlikely story of two women who crash their cars into each other in a school parking lot and are forced to spend a weekend together in a psychiatric ward. The premise is inspired by Glenn’s own mental health journey.

“Comedy and drama cannot coexist without each other. During my time in treatment, humor was the mechanism to get through it all. Thus, ‘I Didn’t Mean To Go Mental’ was born,” said Glenn.

“I Didn’t Mean To Go Mental” is directed by Layne Marie Williams. Writer-creator Glenn stars alongside Katie Maringer (Don’t Log OffYoung People), whose character is inspired by Glenn’s co-creator, Amy McIntyre. The crew also includes producers Ashton Swinford, Aimy Tien and Grace Hahn.

Glenn, Williams, Maringer, and Swinford attended the premiere. Here are some photos from the Los Angeles premiere and festivities…

“I was blown away by how well ‘I Didn’t Mean To Go Mental’ was received. It felt validating to sell out The Chinese Theatre,” said Glenn, “The roars of laughter into tears was exactly why I made this, and it definitely paid off!”

At The Hollywood Roosevelt, the cast and crew celebrated with guests and supporters of the project, including actors Lauren ‘Lolo’ Spencer (Sex Lives of College Girls), Kelsey Flynn, Tiffany ‘Stalking Gia’ Giardina, and Gabi Milo, and comedians Brad Stoll and Lucy Porter.

“I Didn’t Mean To Go Mental” arrived at Dances With Films after screening in NYC at the Big Apple Film Festival and Art of Brooklyn Festival, and premiering at SeriesFest in Denver as an official selection of the prestigious Independent Pilot Competition.
