Havas Chicago Creative Director Aaron Cathey Shares His Super Bowl Ad Faves

Which Super Bowl spots did you love? Which did you not love? Let’s hear what the pros had to say! We were thrilled to have Havas Chicago Creative Director Aaron Cathey stop by Screen after the game to present his picks…

SCREEN: What was your favorite spot of the night?

AARON: What if the security systems never went off line in Jurassic Park because they had the Xfinity guy? I am a sucker for a simple premise that makes me laugh. It had the kind of stuff I want from a Super Bowl spot. Big pop culture idea. A little something for everybody. I really want to work with Taika Waititi. Everything he does is amazing.

SCREEN: What was your least favorite spot of the night or a spot you felt could have been more successful?

AARON: Only through sheer tyranny of will does a Super Bowl spot get made. The process is ulcer-inducing. So I’m never a fan of singling out someone’s blood, sweat and Pepto Bismol. But it did feel like a down year. Just a more quiet and subdued show than it has been the last few years. I found it tough to get excited about any specific spots outside of two or three standouts. Oh, and I went to ai.com right after that ad and I got a 503 error message. C’mon man.

SCREEN: What would you like to see more or less of in terms of advertising in next year’s Super Bowl?

AARON: I want to see more big swings. Treat the Super Bowl like the event it is. Go big. Go bold. Go funny. We were missing those massive spots this year. Not just in execution but in idea.

SCREEN: Any final words here, Aaron?

AARON: The Uber Eats spot was so good. That campaign continues to be brilliant. It was another big favorite of the night. And Liquid IV was another one that stood out to me.
