Five Questions with SCREEN: Northwest Illinois Film Office Director Gary Camarano

What do Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Sinatra and It’s a Wonderful Life have in common? They’re all right here as Northwest Illinois Film Office Director Gary Camarano stops by for a thoroughly entertaining round of Five Questions with SCREEN. Let’s get to it!

SCREEN: Thanks for stopping by, Gary! Before we get to the rapid-fire questions, please let our readers know why they should consider Northwest Illinois for their next film, television or commercial production.

GARY: On the money side of things – Take advantage of some great film incentives from the State of Illinois, and then find what you’re looking for location-wise in approximately 5,000 square miles of potential locations – rural towns with quaint main streets, river locations – the mighty Mississippi and the Rock River, rust belt factories, or state of the art manufacturing – forest and prairies, larger metro backgrounds, a haunted Opera House, or a legit castle, and a renowned group of WWII historical reenactors if you need a World War II background – and lots more – all fresh and not overexposed.

SCREEN: If you could be on any reality TV show or competition in history, what would it be?

GARY: “Running Man” – Richard Dawson and all those psycho maniacs you have to get past – loads of fun. Great way to work out your hostilities and get a little exercise in.

Let’s jump back to 1987 and see the Family Feud legend Richard Dawson in this memorable role alongside Arnold…

SCREEN: It’s holiday season so we gotta ask: What’s your favorite holiday of the year?

GARY: Thanksgiving – at least one out of every four of them. My Birthday is November 26, and once every four years my Birthday falls on Thanksgiving – the nation gets a day off, they hold parades all around the country and eat a feast in my HONOR! You’re welcome!

SCREEN: Celebrity crush?

GARY: Donna Reed – personal reasons – I’m a child of the late 50’s and 60’s – and who does like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “From Here to Eternity”?

Here is an all-time-great scene from the holiday classic…

SCREEN: Describe your perfect weekend!

GARY: Warm days and sunshine under a palm tree and near water, and next to some kind of rum drink.

BONUS QUESTION!

SCREEN: Your go-to karaoke song?

GARY: I’d have to read the room first and depending on the mood of the room something to annoy people, or something to get the crowd going – Frank Sinatra, Joe Cocker, Grandpa’s Cough Medicine – depending on my mood – “Fly Me to the Moon” – “Biting List” or “The FISH Song”…
