Five Questions with SCREEN: Filmmaker April Wright
What do rollerskating rinks, the best steak ever and your Chicago Cubs have in common? They’re all right here as acclaimed filmmaker and Chicago native April Wright stops by for a thoroughly entertaining round of Five Questions with SCREEN. Let’s get to it!
SCREEN: Thanks for playing, April! First things first, let us know why we should make our way to the special advance screening of your film this Monday, March 23rd at the Gorton Center in Lake Forest, as closing night film of the Lake County Film Festival?
APRIL: My new documentary ALL SKATE is about the history of roller skating and rinks is very personal to me because I grew up in The Park Roller Rink in Zion, IL. My grandfather built the rink, so playing the doc here is the perfect place Hoping to see some old friends who skated at our rink or others in the area. Chicago has always had some of the best skaters on the planet!
SCREEN: On that note, if you could go for a skate at any rink anywhere in the Chicagoland area tonight, which would it be?
APRIL: I would have to say ALL of them – they are all great, and sadly we’ve lost so many rinks in the Chicagoland area, we owe a huge thanks to the families who are keeping their rinks going!
SCREEN: OK now for some rapid-fire questions… If you could be a member of any musical group in history, what would it be?
APRIL: KC and the Sunshine Band. Because they have an awesome horn section.
SCREEN: What is your most prized possession?
APRIL: I have an old-ish 1995 XJS Jaguar convertible. It needs work but very fun to drive!
SCREEN: One meal, one restaurant, and we’re buying. What will it be?
APRIL: A steak at Gene & Georgetti.
BONUS QUESTIONS!
SCREEN: If you could only be a fan of one Chicago sports team, which would it be?
APRIL: Cubbies!!!
SCREEN: Worst job ever?
APRIL: I worked at Venture for one day. It was horrible. Who remembers that store?
SCREEN: Best advice you’ve ever received?
APRIL: Be yourself.
