Filmscape Chicago Ready to Roll This Weekend… and It’s Free!

Filmscape Chicago is here. The mantra for this year is “New Dates, New Venue, Same Mission,” and it’s a must-attend for anyone in the Midwest production community this weekend, June 25th and 26th. This year Filmscape will be coming to you from CineCity Studios Chicago, 2429 West 14th Street, a production facility minutes away from Cinespace.

Entering its fourth year, Filmscape Chicago is the Midwest’s largest education-focused film and television tradeshow. They bring the best of the best of lighting, camera, audio, and grip manufacturers, along with Chicago-area production resources, for two days of completely free classes, networking, and technology.

This schedule is truly jam-packed all day both days, but let’s highlight a couple of exciting events we spotted on the Filmscape schedule…

Saturday with Justified DP John Lindley

In “Zeiss Presents, A Conversation With John Lindley, ASC,” Zeiss’ Snehal Patel talks about the art of cinematography with Director of Photography John Lindley, ASC (Justified, Sneakers, Pleasantville, You’ve Got Mail). Admission is first come, first served, and the discussion begins at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Your First Look at the Alexa 35

Filmscape will also offer the opportunity for some hands-on experience with the latest in camera technology. One of the stars of the show will be the Alexa 35 from Arri. ALEXA 35 is the smallest fully featured production camera ever made by ARRI, packing the features and processing power of a larger ALEXA into a Mini-sized body. Sunday with Former CineCares Exec Sheila Brown

Sunday at 1:30 pm brings you “AICP Presents Diversity And Inclusion In Film and Television.” Sheila Brown, the brand-new VP Equity & Inclusion for AICP will join us to discuss diversity in the Midwest TV/Film/Advertising community, and more broadly about the work being done to advance diversity and inclusion in Chicago and what she plans to accomplish with AICP.

Networking Throughout the Weekend

Various organizations will be hosting coffee hours and networking sessions throughout the weekend. Hosts include IFA Chicago, Mezcla Media Collective, Chicago Filmmakers, and Women in Camera, to name a few.
