‘Fargo’ Season Five Expected to Shoot in Calgary, After Filming S4 in Chicago

Fargo fans were jubilant to hear that the series would be back for a fifth season, but will Chicago television professionals be jubilant as well? Season Five will be set in the year 2019, with the media release teasing “when is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?” but the question is where will the production be set?

Sources tell SCREEN Fargo Season Five is expected to film in Calgary, beginning in September. The fourth season was filmed in Chicago, while the first three seasons had been filmed up north in Calgary. It appears the FX series will be returning to the Canadian province, though we will know more definitively in the months ahead as the start date approaches.

More About Season 5

Said FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier in a statement, “Noah and Warren have delighted and inspired fans through four brilliant chapters of Fargo and we’re thrilled to announce with our partners at MGM a new chapter of what has become one of TV’s best and most acclaimed series.”

Peabody and Emmy Award-winning EP Noah Hawley who also serves as writer/director and his production company 26 Keys, lead the creative team. Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale), and his production company The Littlefield Company, also serves as Executive Producer along with Joel and Ethan Coen, and Steve Stark (Vikings: Valhalla) of Toluca Pictures.

FX has yet to announce the cast for Season 5. Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman starred in previous seasons. Specific storylines, headlining cast, release dates, and more will be forthcoming in the months ahead.

Looking Back to Season 4 in Chicago

Chicago was abuzz as the fourth season of Fargo moved its tales to the Midwest hub of Kansas City, and promptly chose Chicago as its place of production. The plot this season revolved around an uneasy truce behind Cannon’s organization and their rival Italian gang, brokered by the exchange of each family’s youngest son. The all-star cast featured the inimitable Chris Rock

Fargo Season Four premiered on September 27, 2020, on FX. It wrapped up with its 11th episode on November 29, 2020.
