Super Bowl Hits and Misses from Executive Creative Director Armando Flores

In the advertising world, Super Bowl Sunday is about anything but football. It’s about the commercials! We were thrilled to have Grey Executive Creative Director Armando Flores stop by Screen after the game to present their picks…

SCREEN: What was your favorite spot of the Super Bowl?

ARMANDO: Coinbase. For Everybody. A simple concept that got entire rooms full of people singing along. The execution was simple and cut through the commercial clutter.

SCREEN: What was your least favorite spot of the night or a spot you felt could have been more successful?

ARMANDO: Draftkings. Another to throw on the celebrity pile, but the fake live bit didn’t really land and the bad dubbing, which is usually hilarious, wasn’t.

SCREEN: What would you like to see more or less of in terms of advertising in next year’s Super Bowl?

ARMANDO: Celebrities in Super Bowl commercials will never go away, but I would love to see more spots where the celebrity used is more central to the concept. Celebs increasingly feel like an afterthought, and many spots scream “anyone’s fine, we just need someone”.

Thanks so much for chiming in, Armando! Check back here at SCREEN for more insight and interviews from advertising creatives between the coasts. You can also click right here to subscribe to our weekly email newsletter.
