MASTERWORK: INDUSTRY CONVERSATIONS WITH PRODUCTION DESIGNER LARRY LUNDY
April 28, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for another edition of Masterworks: Industry Conversations with Production Designer and Set Decorator Larry Lundy!
Chicago-based, set decorator and production designer, Larry Lundy is best known for his ability to create immersive environments that truly set the scene for feature films and television series. His creativity is evident on NATIVE SON (1986) FLATLINERS (1989), THE BABE (1992), ER (1997-1999), HIGH FIDELITY (2000), SHAMELESS (2015 – 2019), SENSE8 (2016-2017) and BATWOMAN (2019-2020). Lundy, a keen observer of human habitation and natural environments, uses his gift to create textured, realistic environments that communicate to audiences on a subliminal level.
Beginning with the script, Lundy absorbs the mood and feel of the story. He co-creates with directors, producers, writers, and cinematographers to imagine a visual world. Next, Lundy sets about working his magic, researching written and visual materials, visiting existing locations, then choosing and arranging set dressing and creating sets that speak volumes about character, place and era.
Stepping onto a Lundy set is like stepping into a different reality. Lundy works with carpenters, painters, set decorators, prop persons, and other craftspersons to fabricate sets and props that are accurate to the minutest detail. His sets become intimate surroundings for actors to step right into character.
