Exclusive: Joel Edgerton On ‘Train Dreams’
After wrapping the film, Train Dreams, Joel Edgerton remembers hoping that he had “done enough of the right thing” to make his character worthwhile. After telling that to Screen Magazine on the red carpet at The Chicago International Film Festival, the actor proved that he’s got as much modesty as talent.
One reviewer has described Edgerton’s performance as, “the best work of his remarkable career.” There’s a lot more where that came from.
Train Dreams is based on a novella by Denis Johnson. It tells the story of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), “a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century,” according to IMDb.
Edgerton joined director Clint Bentley and co-writer Greg Kwedar to speak with the press before the film screened at The Music Box Theater on Monday night. When Screen asked him to self-evaluate the job he had done on the film, the actor said that a trusty director helped him get it right. Check it out below.
