Daily Planet Productions and Chicago Blackhawks Release First Episode of Centennial Docuseries
Daily Planet Productions, in collaboration with the Chicago Blackhawks, is proud to announce the release of The Originals, the first episode in a four-part documentary series created to commemorate the Blackhawks’ centennial celebration. The episode premiered in October and is now available to fans exclusively on the Blackhawks official YouTube channel.
Here is a look at the first episode…
Directed by Sara Evans, The Originals explores the early contributions to professional hockey by the Chicago Blackhawks, from introducing the first goal horn to pioneering game-changing techniques that shaped the organization’s legacy in Chicago and across the NHL. Hosted by Chicago urban historian, Dilla, the episode also includes special celebrity appearances by Jim Belushi, Jeff Garlin, and Billy Corgan, each sharing their personal connections to the team and its enduring impact on Chicago culture.
“Bringing The Originals to life has been an incredible experience,” said Evans. “The Originals episode isn’t just for die-hard hockey fans. It’s for anyone who connects with stories about grit, originality, and change. We wanted to honor that team’s legacy with both authenticity and heart.”
“We’re thrilled to see The Originals connect with fans as the first chapter in this historic celebration,” added Scott Marvel, Executive Producer. “Sara’s vision captures the essence of what it means to be an original. It’s about being a pioneer, a risk-taker, and part of something bigger than yourself.”
The release of The Originals marks the beginning of a four-part docuseries that will continue throughout the Blackhawks’ Centennial season, with each installment highlighting a distinct era and theme in franchise history.
Daily Planet’s Sara Evans will also direct the fourth and final episode, The Next Originals, which will explore the future of hockey. It will spotlight the next generation of players, innovators, and fans shaping the game for the next hundred years.
