Craft Detroit Chief Editor Chris Chynoweth Creates Hilarious AI Spec Ad
/
Chris Chynoweth, Chief Editor at Craft Detroit, has released a groundbreaking AI-driven spec commercial for USAFacts titled Conspiracy Astronaut. Using advanced AI tools like Runway, Flux, Adobe Firefly, Adobe Premiere, and Eleven Labs, Chris demonstrates how AI technology can unlock new creative possibilities in advertising, particularly within the realm of bizarre comedy.
In reflecting on the project, Chris said, “I wanted to see where I could push this technology in advertising, especially in the niche of bizarre comedy—my personal favorite. Ironically, that’s coming from a guy who works on a lot of car commercials. My time at Craft and working internally at an ad agency over the past year has given me a fresh perspective on filmmaking, and I wanted to experiment with some new ideas to see what I could create.”
Let’s take a look at the spec spot…
Chris also emphasized the importance of innovation for Detroit’s creative and business communities: “With everything Detroit has been through this year in our industry, it’s crucial to find new ways to rebuild and refuel the community. This might be one of the keys to getting us where we need to go.”

Conspiracy Astronaut playfully explores fringe conspiracy theories through humor. Chris explained, “This is my subtle commentary on the fringe thought that pervades social spaces today. I wanted to poke fun at that world in a lighthearted way, making people reconsider their strange ideas. If we can laugh at ourselves more, we’d be less divided. And yes, my favorite part is definitely the space laser.”

The AI-generated TV commercial features absurd visuals like fake moon landings, Illuminati symbols, and a protest claiming “birds aren’t real.” Chris used Flux to generate the base imagery, while Runway brought the scenes to life, pushing the limits of AI creativity in advertising.
The entire commercial was done by Chris as a passion project.
