Another Great Lineup Ahead For The Chicago International Film Fest
The Chicago International Film Festival lived up to its stellar reputation during a Preview Party at the AMC Theater on Monday night. Besides unveiling a great lineup for the upcoming 60th festival, the preview included personal takes from the programmers who satisfy moviegoers at “North America’s longest-running competitive film festival,” running this year from October 16 to 27.
The 2024 lineup includes three world premieres, 13 North American premieres, 14 US premieres and dozens of foreign films. The schedule features work by many first-time directors as well as seasoned veterans and returning friends of the festival. Among them:
- Director Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson starring Samuel L. Jackson and Erykah Badu and produced by Denzel Washington and Todd Black. In the film, two siblings squabble over whether an heirloom piano should be sold to kickstart a family fortune or remain a vestige of the family heritage.
- Director Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch starring Amy Adams. The film tells the story of a stay-at-home mom who “maternal instincts begin to manifest in canine form.”
- Director Robert Zemeckis’ Here starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in a multi-generational “tale of love, loss, laughter and life.”
In addition to these big-budget pictures, the ChiFilmFest will run nearly 200 shorts and features screening in seven theaters throughout the city, populating twenty separate programs and accompanying several special events, parties, awards ceremonies and special evenings.
There will also be “An Evening with Mike Myers” tribute on Saturday October 19. The ChiFilmFest’s beloved Industry Days, a “hub for filmmakers and industry professionals,” will run October 17-20, 2024.
Immediately following the Preview Party on Monday night, guests settled in for tasty margaritas, guacamole and elotes at nearby Tecalitlan Mexican Kitchen & Margarita Bar.
