Exclusive: Bob Teitel Talks ‘One Golden Summer’ with Sharaun Brown at Chicago Int’l Film Festival
For years, filmmaker Bob Teitel could not stop thinking about what happened to Chicago’s 2014 Jackie Robinson West little league baseball team. “They weren’t able to really tell their story,” he told Screen magazine’s Sharaun Brown. So, he helped them tell it by co-producing One Golden Summer, a documentary that opened the 61st annual Chicago International Film Festival.
Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West team won the 2014 Little League World Series. Then they lost it. Along the way, they endured media bias, negative stereotypes and bogus manipulation. In One Golden Summer, they share details of the experience and tell us what has happened since.
Teitel walked the red carpet with One Golden Summer co-producer Betsy Steinberg, director Kevin Shaw and several members of the team. “Today, nine of the 13 young men are playing Division One or some type of Major League Baseball,” he told Screen. “I gotta tell this story.” Check it out below.
