Chi-Hards, get ready to bid farewell to another one of your favorite stars next season. LaRoyce Hawkins, who plays Officer Kevin Atwater, is reportedly leaving the Chicago PD. It appears producers will handle his exit from the Intelligence Unit the same way they did with Jay Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer), working Atwater’s departure into the early episodes of Season 14.
This is a blow for Chi-Hards. It’s no secret that Hawkins, an original cast member since the show’s 2014 premiere, has been a fan favorite from the very beginning. While we don’t know exactly how the show plans to write him off, one storyline seems to make sense based on last season’s events. Atwater, whom fans have long hoped would find lasting love, could move to Miami with his love interest, Officer Tasha Fox (played by Karen Obilom). We know shes is pregnant with his child. In Episode 11, Tasha returned to Chicago from Miami and revealed she was expecting. If that’s the direction the writers choose, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for Atwater to leave the Windy City—and its harsh winters—for a new life in sunny Miami.
Season 14 of Chicago P.D. is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 7, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
