Chicago Indie ‘Room Six’ Winning Big on the Festival Circuit
Two festivals. Four awards. The Chicago-made indie feature Room Six has brought home awards on back-to-back weekends. The film just won the Best Chicago Horror Feature and Best Lead Actor Awards at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, as well as the Audience Choice Feature and Best Cinematography Awards at the Grand Rapids Film Festival.
Room Six centers on a young motel clerk whose night spirals out after the late night arrival of two brothers. The gritty thriller explores the insidious impact of unresolved trauma and has been making noise in the local film community. The Logan Theater, which held the Chicago Horror Film Festival, opened a second screening on Saturday night for Room Six due to high demand of the attendees at the festival’s premier feature.
Room Six was filmed in West Chicago in Fall of 2022, with additional filming in Fall of 2023. Click here for some exclusive photos from the set of Room Six.
Co-Director Hobart Miller couldn’t contain his excitement, stating, “This has been an incredible couple of weeks and finally getting to share our film with the cast and crew at one our city’s most iconic theaters, not to mention all our friends and family who came out to support us… It’s been truly special.”
“The [Chicago Horror] festival staff did such a great job accommodating everyone that night. The lobby of the theater was absolutely packed, we were worried for a second that we may not be able to see our own film!” said Co-Director Michael Panico, “We were so grateful for the turnout and can’t wait to keep screening Room Six everywhere we can.”

Mickey O’Sullivan (Chicago P.D., Room Tone), was also recognized by the Chicago Horror Festival for his performance in Room Six, taking home the award for Best Lead Actor. “I was thrilled to be there every single night and to be able to collaborate with Hobart and Panico again. Building our relationship is what dreams are made of”, said O’Sullivan, who went on to praise all the work done across the weekend. “Thanks to CJ Vecchio and the Chicago Horror Film Festival for bringing so many talented filmmakers together to celebrate filmmaking at the Logan Theater. What a great event.”
