Well, there’s another bittersweet off season update for #OneChicago fans. ‘Chicago Fire’ star Joe Miñoso is set to exit the fire drama after 15 seasons. The actor has captured hearts as Firefighter Joe Cruz since the fire drama’s inaugural season.
Miñoso, who is one of four of the show’s original cast members still left on ‘Fire’ ( Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg and Christian Stolte round out the foursome) will reportedly appear in several episodes this upcoming season to give fans a true goodbye to Cruz. ChiHards were first introduced to his character in Chicago Fire’s pilot episode. He returned throughout the first season before returning as a regular in Season 2.
Miñoso has been a fan favorite in his role as Joe Cruz on the show. He’s beome so much to everyone in Firehouse 51 – from the voice of reason to the guy who steps up to the plate when he’s called upon. And of course, there’s the storyline of how he met his wife, Chloe, during a fire rescue and how they didn’t just welcome a child together, they also adopted Javi who is now a teenager. While where the Cruz storyline ends is unclear, we do know this: in the season 14 finale he and his wife find out their expecting twins when she’s rushed to the hospital with a complication that turns out to be blood vessel issue. The episode ends on a cliffhanger – we’re all used to this by now, aren’t we? – with the several members of the unit rushing into a burning storage facility but they can’t see anything. They’re in danger when it appears the roof is set to collapse but it’s unclear if they all make it out in time.
Bidding farewell to Cruz isn’t the only change firehouse 51 will be enduring this upcoming season. ‘BMF’ star Da’Vinchi is set to join the house as a candidate. The fire drama will also welcome Victor Teran as a new showrunner. He replaces Andrea Newman who has been a part of the show’s fabric since the beginning.
‘Chicago Fire’ will make its fall TV debut October 7.
