AICP Week Is Here! AICP Post Awards Chair Craig Duncan Talks with SCREEN

Three days of education, inspiration and celebration in New York City are ready to roll. AICP Week 2024 kicks off today, Tuesday June 4th, at Base Camp and culminates on Thursday June 6th at the Museum of Modern Art with the AICP Awards Gala Reception. And one of the cornerstones of the Chicago and Midwest advertising community, Cutters Studios Managing Director Craig Duncan, is among those leading this massive effort, as Chairperson of the AICP Post Awards. Craig stopped by to chat with SCREEN as the big week gets underway…

First things first, let’s take a quick look at what lies ahead this week in NYC.

Day 1 of AICP Week is a wide-ranging discussion around the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) from a legal and practical perspective. The day’s content will focus on education and information in this rapidly changing space.

Day 2 will be highlighted by conversations with the most creative minds in the business. Day 2 also features the world premieres of the AICP Show: The Art & Technique of the Commercial and the AICP Next Awards at The Museum of Modern Art.

Day 3 is all about honoring excellence. The day begins with the AICP Post Awards premiere at The Museum of Modern Art.

Later that evening, AICP Week culminates at The Museum of Modern Art with a tribute to 2024 AICP Awards Winners and the revealing of Best of Show honorees in the AICP Post Awards, AICP Next Awards, and the AICP Show: The Art & Technique of the Commercial, followed by a gala reception throughout MoMA.

Chicago’s Duncan Leads the AICP Post Awards

Earlier this year, Craig Duncan, President and Managing Director of Cutters Studios, was named Chairperson of the 2024 AICP Post Awards.

Duncan says that he was touched and honored by the invitation to serve as Chairperson of the Post Awards. “Being selected to Chair the AICP Post Awards is without a doubt the pinnacle of my career,” Craig shared with SCREEN. “It has been an absolutely incredible experience. I feel so honored to be representing all the incredible artists that make up our post production community. These Editors, Colorist, VFX Artists, Motion Designers, Audio Engineers are the true backbone of this industry. They are the final rewrite of every story. Their expertise and constant innovation are truly awe inspiring.”

As for what’s Craig looking forward at AICP Week over the next few days in New York, “Of course, the highlight of the week is always the Gala at MOMA,” Craig shared with SCREEN. “It is always such an inspiring evening in a magical venue. The work being honored this year is simply breathtaking. I can’t wait to finally see the show up on the big screen. I am also very excited about all the panels at Basecamp this year. AICP is taking a deep dive into all aspects of AI. I am very interested to hear the experts that are breaking new ground with this technology explain how they see AI impacting our industry.”

Duncan believes the AICP Awards are so vital to our advertising community because it “is the only award show that focuses entirely on craft. It honors the people that bring the creative vision to life which is very unique. And the fact that all the winners are transferred back to film and become part of the permanent collection at MOMA is something truly special. I love knowing that these shows will live on forever and will be a time capsule of what was happening in the world of advertising in 2023-2024.”
