11 Dollar Bill’s Lisa Effress Answers Five Questions

In the latest installment of our popular weekly feature, Lisa Effress, managing director at 11 Dollar Bill in Boulder, answers Five Questions with SCREEN.

SCREEN: Most famous person you’ve ever met?

EFFRESS: Muhammad Ali. By far the best and most touching celebrity experience of my life. He was already quite ill with Parkinsons when I met him but I feel we made a very strong connection on set with very, very few words.

SCREEN: Your greatest sports achievement?

EFFRESS: Last Summer, I hiked all the way from Crested Butte to Aspen, CO—in the middle of July. Blazing sun. Thin air. It was kind of like Hot Yoga meets child birth, only with much better scenery.

SCREEN: Worst job you’ve ever had?

EFFRESS: I try hard to consider every single job I’ve had as some kind of valuable learning experience. But… I’d have to say the sweatiest and most grueling was shucking corn at the Minnesota State Fair. In that case, I learned I hate shucking corn, a valuable enough insight in my mind.

SCREEN: Best advice you’ve ever been given?

EFFRESS: “Kill them with kindness”. My grandfather used to say this all the time and as a young child I took it on. I’m still yet to literally kill anyone, but that doesn’t stop me from continuing to pour on the kindness. It’s how I conduct my life every single day. Because let’s face it, our world (and our industry) doesn’t need any more assholes. (That’s the meanest thing you’ll ever hear me say.)

SCREEN: If you could appoint ANYONE to be President of the United States, who would it be?

EFFRESS: It would have to be a tie between Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton. Michelle because you can sense how awesome and gracious and empathetic she is and Hillary because, like her or not, she has truly put in the work, the backbreaking commitment, and the grit all these years. And, I happen to think she got totally screwed this last November. She’s a stable human being and we need that now more than ever.

BONUS QUESTION:

SCREEN: Any predictions for the 2017 Chicago Cubs?

EFFRESS: If you’re American, you gotta have some heart for the Cubs but my allegiance is to the Minnesota Twins. Sorry Chicago! I’m predicting the Twins will place 2nd in the AL Central division.
