Justin Wilson Answers Five Questions with SCREEN
September 23, 2020 by Screenmag
Who is more famous: Danica McKellar or Jake from State Farm, that is the question. It's a toss up. Justin Wilson is part of the ensemble of directors on the Texas-based charlieuniformtango squad. Justin stopped by for an entertaining round of Five Question with SCREEN, take a look...
SCREEN: Most famous person you've ever met?
JUSTIN: Oh I don't know. I did a couple of Lifetime movies with Danica McKellar a few years back, who you might know as Winnie Cooper from THE WONDER YEARS. I also just filmed a few campaigns for Jake From State Farm, so maybe him?
SCREEN: What has been your favorite "stay-at-home" activity over the past few months?
JUSTIN: We’ve been gardening, so growing and eating lots of tomatoes and herbs. I’ve also been recording lots of music and singing songs with my partner and our dog. He loves to sing. We've always played lots of chess but we're doing that even more now.
SCREEN: What's inspiring you today?
JUSTIN: The Black Lives Matter movement is truly inspiring. We did a documentary years back about the year 1968, and I was fascinated by the perseverance of people like Fred Hampton who helped push the civil rights movement forward. I never thought we’d be inside of a similar movement ourselves, so I’m drawing lots of inspiration from the folks on the ground doing the necessary work today to push the world in a more compassionate direction.
SCREEN: Best summer vacation ever?
JUSTIN: I haven’t vacationed in the summer for a long time, which is strange considering Texas summers can be hell. The best vacations I’ve been on recently are Morocco in the fall of 2016 (except waking up on my birthday in the Sahara desert to the news that Trump won) and a trip around Rajasthan last year starting on New Year’s Eve.
SCREEN: What's your favorite restaurant on Earth?
JUSTIN: Gracias Madre, there’s one in SF and another in West Hollywood. All vegan, all organic and incredibly tasty. All the food is top notch, and they have really elegant drinks. When people ask what religion I belong to, I tell them I attend the church of Gracias Madre (click here to find this restaurant). But also I must shout out to Bouldin Creek in Austin for their tamales. Click here to track down those tamales.
SCREEN: Worst job ever?
JUSTIN: As a teenager, I took a job as a telemarketer where these sketchy guys handed me ripped pages from a phone book and had me cold call people for money. It took me a few hours to realize it was a scam to rip off the elderly, so I bailed and never went back. I can tell you that felt even worse than making VHS dubs of people’s homemade porn at U-Edit Video.
SCREEN: If you could play any superhero in a major motion picture, who would it be?
JUSTIN: I’m all for appearing in the gritty reimagining of Mojo, who was pretty grim already. Mojo looks like a hysterical Jabba using on robotic spider legs to get around. His eyes are pinned back like Malcolm McDowell’s in A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and he runs the universe’s most addictive gladiator reality TV show. Yes, he’s a super villain and not a hero like you asked, but everybody knows bad guys are the most fun to play.
