BATMAN Pushes Release Date, But Chicago Shoot Still On Schedule

THE BATMAN will no longer hit theaters in 2021, but don't worry, the Caped Crusader will still be hitting Chicago later this month. Warner Bros. rattled the comic book world this week with yet another major release calendar overhaul, pushing the release date of THE BATMAN to March 4, 2022. It was originally scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021, but was pushed back to October 1, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More importantly, when the release date pushed, several Chicagoans began asking, will the highly anticipated downtown shoot be postponed as well?

The answer is the Chicago dates for THE BATMAN are set and the shoot is full speed ahead as scheduled. Director Matt Reeves and his team will be shooting in Chicago for two full weekends, beginning on October 16, 17, 18, then finishing up on October 24 and 25. THE BATMAN's production team will be busy prepping later this week at Keslow Camera, who is providing the extensive large-scale camera gear for this brief but ambitious bout of filming in the Windy City.

Sources tell SCREEN that filming is expected to take place mostly in downtown Chicago, capturing some action-packed scenes with extensive driving sequences and a massive number of cameras in play. While it is a relatively brief shoot, THE BATMAN is bringing a large-scale production that will employ plenty of Chicago and Illinois professionals.

Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell in Chicago?

So the question Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell fans might be asking right now is... who's coming to the Windy City this month? Will Pattinson, Farrell, and the ensuing throngs of adoring fans be descending upon downtown Chicago for this two-weekend stint? Or will it be primarily pro drivers and stunt doubles in their finest Batgear doing the heavy lifting for this city shoot? The answer is: we will probably all find out at the same time - when cameras roll on October 16th - as cast lists for October 16-25 have not yet been made available.

Where Is BATMAN Now?

THE BATMAN is currently back to work in the UK as star Robert Pattinson returned to set last month, after contracting coronavirus and halting production for two weeks. A Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson confirmed to the UK's Daily Mail: 'Following a hiatus for COVID-19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on THE BATMAN in the U.K.' Click here for photos of Pattinson back on set, courtesy of Daily Mail.

ICYMI: The New Trailer Is Epic

The comic book world was aflutter earlier this summer as Matt Reeves released a teaser trailer at DC Fandome, despite only 25 percent of the movie being shot before the COVID-19 pandemic.
