Quarantine Playlist, Second City Edition!

You've binge-watched every series on Netflix twice, and you didn't even like em the first time. You deserve some fresh new comedy for your quarantine playlist. Second City Chicago and the Harold Ramis Film School have curated a hilarious quintet of comedies for Screen Magazine subscribers to enjoy, here you go!

MURDER FOR DUMMIES by Diona Oku

Barbie and Lydia find homicidal solutions for their high shool problems in this dark comedy by Harold Ramis Film School alum Diona Oku. A chance to relive the glory days of high school and right the wrongs that can only result for teenage angst. If the quarantine is putting you in a revenge mindset, this is a chance to vicariously exercise those demons. It's got everything! Youth, sunny California, killing jerks...

[MURDER FOR DUMMIES was selected by Dale Chapman, HRFS Faculty]

LIVE: JEHANNE HOLDS QUARANTINE PRESS BRIEFING by Jehanne Junguenet

This short was inspired by isolation's perfect recipe for insanity in the isolation of quarantine - too much time with yourself and hyper present anxiety.

GO ON GIT by Jesse Rothenberg and Chris Dritsas

This shelter-ready short made by Harold Ramis Film School alums and peppered with Second City regulars tells the story of a community that comes together to banish a plague from their town - but in this case the plague is an adorable dog, and the townsfolk are morons. Simultaneously smart and ridiculously stupid this film is a good choice if you have a hankering for western archetypes reaching new lowbrow heights. Or if you just like dogs.

[GO ON GIT was curated by John Mossman, HRFS Faculty]

BROTHERS FROM THE SUBURBS, EPISODE 2 by Patrick Wimp

“Brothers from the Suburbs” is a short form comedy series that chronicles the trials and tribulations of three awkward black teenagers coming of age in an affluent, predominantly white community. Created by Harold Ramis Film School faculty Patrick Wimp, this horror inspired comedy short should provide some much needed laughs.

DINGUS WISHES by Elvira Ibragimova

Presented by Second City, this absurd fairytale about voting features a naughty wish gremlin and the foolish town that seeks to exploit him in an unforgettable town hall meeting that changes their lives forever. Well written, delightfully directed, and pitch-perfect performed by an incredible cast from throughout Chicago's Second City community!

[DINGUS WISHES was selected by Kat O'Brien, HRFS Faculty]

Special thanks to Jack Newell, Kat O'Brien, John Mossman, Dale Chapman, and everyone at Second City Chicago and the Harold Ramis Film School for curating this laugh-loaded playlist for Screen Magazine readers!
