TONIGHT: The Drive-In Event of the Summer in Chicago
July 29, 2020 by Screenmag
If there was one night to shed those sweatpants, grab some friends, and head to the drive-in, it's tonight. The Chicago Premiere of the bittersweet comedy I USED TO GO HERE, featuring in-person Q&As with Chicago-based writer/director Kris Rey (Sundance hit UNEXPECTED, SXSW Selection EMPIRE BUILDER), will take place tonight, Wednesday, July 29, with two screenings at ChiTown Movies Drive-In Theater in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood.
"Tonight will be awesome because we get to show a Chicago-made (and Carbondale-made!) film and finally be surrounded by our audience again, restoring the communal viewing experience we’ve all been missing," Shane Simmons of Elevated Films told SCREEN. "It’s also the success of a months-long joint effort between Elevated Films & Music Box to create a first-run drive-in experience in the city of Chicago, and we’re so happy to partner with the folks at ChiTown Movies who have put together a really high-quality, safe, and fun drive-in."
With showtimes at 8:20pm (with a post-screening Q&A by Kris Rey) and 10:30pm (with a pre-screening intro from Rey), advance tickets for the I USED TO GO HERE premiere, are $28 per vehicle, and are available by clicking here.
The event is co-presented by two of the city’s most-respected cinematic institutions — Elevated Films and Music Box Theatre — and audience members can enjoy a fun and safe experience at ChiTown Movies drive-in at 2343 S. Throop Street in Chicago.
More about I USED TO GO HERE
Reviews have been terrific for Rey's Chicago-made indie, which stars Gillian Jacobs, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Micucci.
“Armed with her funniest material to date and a winning performance from Gillian Jacobs, the filmmaker Kris Rey finds new dimensions for both her work and the millennial ennui that has always inspired it.” — IndieWire
“Crackles with a determinedly awkward brand of humor... like YOUNG ADULT, but instead of acid, Rey offers warmth and hope.” — The Playlist
