Your First Look at Kris Rey's I USED TO GO HERE
July 16, 2020 by Screenmag
Chicago filmmaker Kris Rey will release her latest feature, I USED TO GO HERE, on all digital platforms with Gravitas Features on August 7th. The film was selected to this year's prestigious SXSW Film Festival in March. Here is your first look at the star-studded indie:
The cast includes LOVE and COMMUNITY favorite Gillian Jacobs in the lead role opposite the likes of Jemaine Clement, Hannah Marks, Kate Micucci, Jorma Taccone, Josh Wiggins, and Forrest Goodluck.
The film was fully filmed in the Chicagoland area and producers included Lonely Island members Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone.
"I USED TO GO HERE is a refreshing take on a woman's coming-of-age story, from a female writer/director," said Chicago producer Mary Kay Cook in SCREEN's interview with Cook and Rey earlier this year. "It's a comedic journey of self-realization on the cusp of middle age, when we are "supposed" to have things figured out, but really are just becoming who we are." Click here for the full interview.
Critics have praised the film, notably IndieWire’s Kate Erbland declared I USED TO GO HERE Rey’s best film yet, writing, “Kris Rey has long trafficked in stories about compelling women who temper awkward moments by bonding with inappropriate new pals. Armed with her funniest material to date and a winning performance from Gillian Jacobs, the filmmaker finds new dimensions for both her work and the millennial ennui that has always inspired it.”
Mark your calendars for August 7th.
