Optimus has added Editor David Cea to their roster. With 15 years of experience in New York and Chicago, Cea has worked with some of the most respected names in the industry and he brings to Optimus an impressive portfolio, featuring many award-winning spots.
“I've known David for quite some time and we are so excited to have him become part of our family,” said Optimus Editor and Partner Angelo Valencia. “His talent is unmistakable as seen in his beautiful work, but it is his passion for what he does and constant drive to be better that really drew us to him.”
“I grew up watching movies with my dad and knew I wanted to be a part of that magical process in some way,” remarked Cea. “The combination of Goodfellas and Monty Python gave me all the fuel I needed to start my film journey. It wasn't until I took an editing class in college that I discovered the part of filmmaking I wanted to pursue. Specifically, the editor is the one who gets to shape the final product and bring out the true soul of the footage.”
Cea has cut spots for top brands such as Bank of America, Chevrolet, Exxon, Jeep, Hallmark, McDonald’s, Microsoft, and Target. He has partnered with agencies from all over the country, including BBDO, Commonwealth, DDB, Digitas, Hill Holliday, Leo Burnett, Mother, and Saatchi & Saatchi.
After studying film at Hofstra University, Cea met Valencia while working as his assistant at Whitehouse NY in 2005. Cea then moved on to hone his craft further with the talented editors at Cosmo Street NY. Chicago became home for him in 2013 as he spent three years at Whitehouse. He moved back to the East Coast for a couple of years only to find that he couldn't shake his love affair with the Midwest. He is happy to put down roots here.
An outdoor enthusiast, Cea can be spotted teaching his little ones the art of falling off a skateboard, bike, or scooter. When working, half of his energy is spent covering up his New Jersey accent. A few times a year, he takes his wife and kids back to that great state to show them how fun it is to shout for no reason. In spite of all of this, he considers himself fairly laid back, and believes there is no job too small and no such thing as failure – only opportunities to learn.
Optimus EP/Managing Director Brian Hrastar said, “We’re thrilled to welcome David to the team. The quality of his work, his client history, and his experience in multiple markets further strengthen the Optimus roster. On top of that, he’s approachable, funny and kind. He will fit right in.”
