Doc Talk Show This Thursday: Women In Charge
February 25, 2020 by Screenmag
The Doc Talk Show is a monthly non-fiction film showcase that features diverse filmmakers in Chicago. The filmmakers share their clips, trailers, and shorts and enjoy a facilitated Q&A with the audience. It takes place every last Thursday at Uncommon Ground at 1401 W. Devon in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood. This month's event is set for 7 pm this Thursday February 27th and the focus is "Women In Charge."
Here are the featured filmmakers for the evening:
Colette Ghunim's film TRACES OF HOME documents the Chicago filmmaker’s journey to find the homes of her mother and father in Palestine and Mexico.
Zanah Thirus' work BLACK FEMINIST is told through interviews with scholars, writers, business owners, veterans and comedians. This documentary explores the double-edged sword of racial and gender oppression that black women face in America. Zanah will also share her demo for a new work-in-progress, UNLEARNING SEX.
Maria Finitzo's feature film THE DILEMMA OF DESIRE explores the work of four women from the worlds of science, art, business and design who are shattering myths and lies that women are being told about their sexual desire and their bodies.
The Doc Talk Show is produced and co-hosted by Jeff Spitz. A Sundance Film Festival honoree and professor of documentary film at Columbia College Chicago, Jeff presents an eye-opening variety of clips and leads convos about the art of visual storytelling. From fully realized non-fiction shorts to demos, music videos and Kickstarter teasers each clip is carefully curated and followed by Q&A with the filmmaker. Who is this artist? Why do they want to show us this story? Eat, drink and discuss with directors, cinematographers, editors, writers and fellow film lovers.
