Local Legend's First Film Premieres This Month
September 8, 2019 by Screenmag
Local Legend Films’ first original production OUT OF REACH, a visual poem written by Resita Cox and directed by Jayme Joyce, will premiere in Chicago during the International Social Change Film Festival on September 27, 2019.
OUT OF REACH takes viewers on a timeless journey through childhood memories paired with visuals created on the South and West Sides of Chicago. Cox’s poem describes how painful it is to confront the issues of segregation, poverty and other systems of oppression that exist today for many children of color in the United States.
OUT OF REACH features young people from the North Lawndale community. Behind the scenes, the film crew was comprised of several members of the community who are now full-time employees and founding filmmakers of Local Legend Films, a documentary film company committed to employing young people at risk from gun violence.
The Chicago screening of the International Social Change Film Festival will take place at the DuSable Arts Museum in Chicago September 27-29th. The film will be made available online on September 13th for public viewing.
