Radar Studios’ Director Fischer Honored

Radar Studios, Director Neal E. Fischer won this year’s Best Director of a Short at the Chicago Comedy Film Festival (CCFF), which took place this past weekend. Known for his work on the micro-budget feature DEAD GIRLS and recent web series, #WhoKilledHeather, Fischer received the award for his short THE ARTIST.
THE ARTIST is a two-minute short starring Cooper Johnson (IT'S ALL GOOD) of FND Films, who brings to life a tortured artist echoing Henry David Thoreau by living in the wilderness. The short takes a satirical approach to the writing process as the novelist looks for inspiration in the most unpredictable places. Filmed in the suburbs of Chicago on the coldest day of 2016, Fischer and a small crew set out to create the award-winning product.
“I’m happy people are embracing my quirky sense of humor” said Fischer. “This short is dedicated to all the young Thoreau’s out there writing the next great American novel… and the parents who continue to house them.”
THE ARTIST was screened alongside feature films and shorts from six different countries starring the likes of Natalia Dyer, John Bradley, Jim Rash, and more. Fischer was named Best Director of a Short amongst 30 other nominees.
“From our founding CCFF has aimed to not just provide the highest caliber comedy films for exhibition, but to also bridge gaps that continue to exist in the local film community,” said Brent Kado, Executive Director of The Chicago Comedy Film Festival. “One of those gaps consistently falls between the traditional independent film space and the city's high-caliber advertising field. Fischer showcases his footing in both these areas and we were delighted to be able to present his film at our festival.”
The short also featured editing work from Mark P. Smith, Radar Studios Editor and co-host of the Best of the Best Podcast, alongside Fischer. The award-winning short is just one of the creative areas Fischer is passionate about. In addition to directing, Fischer co-hosts two podcasts, recently completed a 36-episode branded web series and continues to work in the commercial space.
