Ogilvy's Peter Medlock Answers Five Questions
August 30, 2017 by Screenmag
This week, Peter Medlock, Creative Director & Cinematographer at Ogilvy & Mather, answers Five Questions with SCREEN...
SCREEN: Your favorite tattoo?
PETER: Well Im probably obligated to say the one on my chest with my Son’s birthdate, but in actuality, I have a MF Doom mask on my shoulder. It was spur of the moment for B-Roll on a shoot, and it represents my core ethos like no other. Stay humble, hustle hard, make do amazing work.
SCREEN: Your next tattoo?
PETER: Probably a gecko, or maybe a Narwhal.
SCREEN: If you could appoint ANYONE to be the President of the United States, who would it be and why?
PETER: Dave Chappelle. I think he has the perfect balance for POTUS. Hilarious and logical.
SCREEN: Best summer vacation ever?
PETER: When I was 18 years old, I went on a road trip to Tennessee with my buddies, in my parents car. On the second day, we blew all our money for the week on BB Guns, a sling shot, and cigarettes. Ive never had more fun and it's the closest ill ever come to a binge weekend, or HANGOVER-like fiasco.
SCREEN: Best advice you’ve ever been given?
PETER: I've got a couple for ya... “Good, Fast or Cheap. Pick two, cause you can’t have all three, and whatever you don’t pick is what you won’t get. Choose wisely.” - Kelly Kyer, my first mentor, during a discussion with a client.
"You have a great opportunity to express your work at a time when resources are at their best. Things have never been better for you. Make great shit." - Joe Pytka, Director of pretty much every good commercial ever.
SCREEN: Worst advice you’ve ever been given?
PETER: “Well thats just how it is.” And also: “Don’t rock the boat.”
SCREEN: Favorite guilty pleasure TV show?
PETER: MASH. I grew up on it when I was a kid. Every sick day from school. Any weekend, nights. It ran constantly, on every channel.
