71 Degrees North Crafts New PSA for Special Olympics
December 8, 2016 by Screenmag
At a very uncertain time when many people in America no longer celebrate differences but fear them, work like this latest PSA, “Different Like Me,” for Special Olympics is a breath of fresh air, shot in Chicago by the team at 71 Degrees North.
Since its inception in 2008, 71 Degrees North has been working pro bono with Special Olympics, making the non-profit organization is their longest standing client.
"We worked with copywriter Christina Honan Swan to create concepts for a unique PSA that would take on the point of view of real athletes in real locations," says Martin Rodahl, director of the spot. "We wanted the athletes to be able to showcase their skills, but also reveal that sense of vulnerability, which hints at the challenges that each participant may have had to overcome.
This was a unique opportunity for Rodahl to also return to the role as Editor, with 71 Degrees North and Executive Producer Neha Datt Schultz managing the post production process from start to finish. Elliot Rudmann of Nolo gave the PSA its dramatic look and Cory Coken from NoiseFloor augmented the sound design and mix.
The spot has been released online for now, with a 30-second cutdown slated for broadcast media in the near future.
