NEW HEIGHTS FOR OLYMPIA: With one day to go, indie feature OLYMPIA, AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR HOW THINGS WORK has reached its initial crowdfunding goal and is within striking range of its stretch goal. OLYMPIA is an independent feature film about what it means to become an adult in the modern world, produced by 30 Pictures, LLC, in association with executive producer Matt Miller (Chicago-based co-creator of TV Land's TEACHERS). Gregory Dixon directs the screenplay from McKenzie Chinn (also an executive producer on the film). Production is slated to begin in September throughout Chicago. Sometime over the next 24 hours, please head to http://www.hatchfund.org/project/olympia and pitch in to help put OLYMPIA over the top.
READY TO SPEAK: SPEAKING IN TONGUES is a low-budget independent feature currently in pre-production, set in Wisconsin and Illinois. It's a personal story for director Nathan Deming. "In 2009, I spent my summer knocking on hundreds of doors, passing out thousands of pamphlets, and walking the streets of Chicago for hours a day talking to strangers about Christ," explains Deming. "I was an unpaid intern working for an evangelical megachurch, preaching hardline conservative morality behind an approachable young mask. But talking to people and, eventually, seeing the tactics my church employed for what they were, I ended up starting to lose my own faith rather than converting anyone."
"SPEAKING IN TONGUES is not an anti-Christian polemic. This is a film for anyone who’s ever had to question their fundamental beliefs, or found themselves too far down the wrong path. SPEAKING IN TONGUES is a film we passionately want to make because writing it has forced us both to look more closely at why we believe what we believe – with or without religion." I'll keep you posted as this one heads into production. In the meantime, Deming is accepting submissions for a few remaining crew and cast slots, you can inquire at email@example.com.
CHICAGO-STYLE SHARK TANK: VC is a comedy web series set in world of venture capital. The series stars Chicago actors Luke Renn and Brad Armacost and is directed by another veteran Chicago actor, Kurt Naebig. Says Renn, "It's kind of like SHARK TANK with laughs and a plot. It centers on Steve and Ed, a couple of venture capitalists on the lookout for the next billion dollar company. In addition to the scripted material, we have real entrepreneurs pitch us their most outlandish ideas." Get your feet wet with VC at http://www.funnyordie.com/vcseries
