Evanston Screenwriter Brings Debut Feature Back Home
March 13, 2014 by Mike McNamara
We love it when a Midwest native brings their films back to the Midwest. Such is the case for Evanston native Moira McMahon Leeper, who is heading back home to bring her feature script A LIGHT BENEATH THEIR FEET to the screen.
McMahon Leeper’s west coast credits include the TV series GREY’S ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE and the MTV series TEEN WOLF. She will be joined by director Valerie Weiss, producer Robert A. Johnson, line producer (and IFP Chicago president, for those of you keeping score at home) Carrie Holt De Lama and executive producer Jeffrey Loeb. Loeb currently resides in Evanston and also produced Weiss’s debut feature LOSING CONTROL.
And the cast is shaping up nicely, led by the inimitable Taryn Manning (HUSTLE AND FLOW, 8 MILE) and rising teen star Madison Davenport, who will appear in Darren Aronofsky's upcoming biblical epic NOAH and Robert Rodriguez's FROM DUSK TIL DAWN series. TV stalwart Kurt Fuller (PARENTHOOD, PSYCH) and a bevy of talented Chicago actors round out the cast.
This coming-of-age indie follows a high school senior (Davenport) who must choose between escaping to the college of her dreams and staying close to home to take care of her bipolar mother (Manning).
A LIGHT BENEATH THEIR FEET shoots March 29 through April 27 in Evanston. I’ll keep you posted on this one!
