Wachowskis Wrap Today
August 8, 2014 by Mike McNamara
Today marks the final day of a month of shooting in and around Chicago today by Lana and Andy Wachowski for their upcoming Netflix series "Sense8." The production from the Wachowskis and "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski has filmed in a variety of neighborhoods and locales all over the city, including a high-speed car chase in Uptown, a trip over to Wrigley Field and even a stop by the ever-popular Superdawg, where the cast and crew of more than 200 filmed earlier this week.
Illinois Film Office Director Betsy Steinberg commented, "Having a Wachowski project in Chicago two summers in a row has meant a lot to our community. Andy and Lana love shooting in their hometown and I hope it's a trend that continues!"
"Sense8" is a 10-episode series that follows eight characters from across the globe who, after a tragic death, find themselves linked mentally and emotionally. “The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally,” Sense8 co-showrunner J. Michael Straczynski told Deadline earlier this summer. “They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”
The cast includes Chicago's own Daryl Hannah, Naveen Andrews from "Lost" and Freema Agyeman from "Doctor Who."
The 10-episode series filmed in San Francisco in June and will be moving on to Mexico City, London and Berlin, among other places. The show is scheduled to debut in 2015.
