Silver Lion ‘Stork’ Spot By Lapiz, Earhole

More news from Cannes, Lapiz and Leo Burnett brought home a Silver Lion for a Spanish-language radio spot titled “Stork” for P&G’s pregnancy test, “Clear Blue.”

The spot is designed to feel like a 1970’s documentary following the “stork.” But instead of following its traditional migration pattern to the south, as the narrator expects, the stork goes north, stops, confused.

To know for sure, they conclude, use Clear Blue, the pregnancy test that is 99 percent effective.

Sound design and mix for the spot was executed by Earhole Sound Designer/Engineer Beto Santoyo, and Producer Adam Wiebe. The English versions of the spots were executed by Michael DeAngelis.

“The process was surprisingly smooth considering that we had to coordinate across national lines from Chicago, where the production was envisioned and produced, to recording studios in Mexico for the voice talent,” says Adam Wiebe, a producer at Earhole. “All the while, we worked to make it feel like it was all executed here in Chicago.”

“The main sound effect they were looking for was the stork, of course, but they wanted to make it sound like a 1970’s sound of documentary,” Santoyo says. “So we had to treat the voice like it was coming from an old tube television.”

The spot was one of two spots that were short-listed out of Earhole and Lapiz/Leo Burnett. The other was “Esposo” or “Husband”, a spot for Mujeres Latinas en Accion, an advocacy group battered women in the Latino community in the Chicago area.

“I am proud of the fact that three years in a row now, Earhole’s work has been short-listed or received honors at Cannes,” says Tom Wiebe, the studio’s CEO. “That’s due to the great work done by Chicago people at agencies like Lapiz and Leo Burnett working with Chicago production houses and with the extremely talented and diverse crew at Earhole.”
