Voiceover Event In Chicago Next Week
August 17, 2012 by Screenmag
Want a job? That’s the stakes up as part of a voiceover expo coming to Chicago next week.
In Chicago’s downtown Harris Theatre in Saturday, August 25, 2012, THAT'S VOICEOVER is an expo that offers workshops for voiceover and, this year, a voiceover job with NBC. It’s a national showcase for meeting the buyers, agents, and creative directors who generate the work voiceover talents want and to meet the coaches who can help refine their talent.
“We've created a world of voiceover where people can come whether newcomers or already in the industry and get a snapshot of where they're headed or where they want to go,” says Joan Baker, co-creator of the event and author of the book ‘Secrets of Voiceover Success’. “When you're in the voiceover industry, it's not easy to navigate, that's why a lot of people end up not making it.”
A special component of the event is an audition show where the winner lands a voiceover job for NBC. 30 people are chosen for the event from a group of online submissions (final submissions due tomorrow at www.thatsvoiceover.com).
Those 30 will audition in a preliminary round next week and six will be called back to audition before a panel of judges – one will receive a paying job, either a promo or a PSA that will run on NBC, win a Neumann TLM 102 microphone and have a one-on-one meeting with Joan Sparks of Stewart Talent.
Also at the expo is “Speed Dating With Your Demo Reel” – industry experts will offer feedback.
“Agents don't usually give feedback because that itself is a job,” Baker says. “This is set up for something very unusual.”
Speakers will include:
LeeAnn Trotter, Entertainment Reporter, NBC Chicago
