Nevada Tops $2 Billion in Production Revenue

With the announcement of a 2010 calendar year total of $92 million in revenue generated from film and production, the Nevada Film Office’s (NFO) total cumulative recorded revenues have now surpassed $2 billion since its inception in 1982.

“What impresses me most about the production revenue figures reaching $2 billion is the fact that the first billion took 19 years to be generated while the second billion took only nine years,” said Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Chair of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED), which oversees the NFO.

The major product helping the NFO generate revenue is the recently released 2011 Nevada Production Directory (NPD). This annual publication is the number one resource used by industry professionals planning or conducting “shoots” in Nevada. The directory showcases local crews, production equipment and supplies, state_of_the_art production facilities, stages and studios and support services. The NPD is distributed worldwide at film_related events and is also available online at nevadafilm.com featuring a 24/7 photo image location library. This “yellow pages” of Nevada production resources attracts hundreds of film projects a year to the state, aiding the NFO in generating approximately $100 million plus in revenues annually.

“Nevada offers productions a film_friendly environment with little red tape and diverse one_of_a_kind locations,” said Michael Skaggs, executive director of NCED. “The NFO is also very aggressive with its marketing and advertising strategies, raising awareness about the benefits of shooting in Nevada.”

The NFO assists on average more than 300 productions annually in film, television programming (including series, specials and reality, music videos, commercials, documentaries), still photography, student films and other multi_media projects with location scouting, logistics support and intergovernmental cooperation.

“The NFO is recognized by filmmakers and producers worldwide for its exceptional customer service and production knowledge establishing Nevada as a premier film_friendly destination,” said Charles Geocaris, director of the NFO. “Our office is committed to making every production undertaken in the state a great experience so these individuals will consider Nevada for their future productions.”
